Aega was born out of a desire to create something that mirrors the strength and endurance of South Africans. The Name, Aega
We were inspire by the name Aega for two reasons. One, being the inspiration of an ancient Greek deity. And two, the word itself it means "time" in Estonian.
In Greek Mythology, Aega was a significant figure, sometimes known as Pine or Cynosura or Melissa. According to different accounts, she was a daughter of Olenus or Melisseus. She played a role in the upbringing of Zeus, either alongside her sister Helice or as a nurse to the infant Zeus in Crete. In some versions, Aega was transformed into the constellation Capella by Zeus himself, while in others, she was a radiant daughter of Helios hidden away by Gaia due to her brilliance. Regardless of the variations, Aega's story intertwines with Zeus's upbringing and the mythological narratives of ancient Greece, blending elements of nymph and goat symbolism.
In Ancient Estonia, resilient tribes faced numerous challenges, from harsh winters to invasions by neighboring powers. Despite these struggles, the Estonian people persevered, maintaining their unique culture and identity. Through unity and determination, they defended their lands and traditions, carving out a resilient society amidst adversity. Today, Estonia stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of its people, celebrating its rich history while embracing a vibrant future.
From these historic and cultural stories, we were inspired by how their similarities can relate to our culture in South Africa. By binding fiction and non fiction and both their underlying determinations to grow so adverse to their root struggles, overcoming them with grace and humility, ideally inspires our belief in our brand, the impact we want to make and our own story in South Africa that's yet to be written. Our brand vision shares the same moral. Both stories symbolizing strength, resilience and longevity. As do the value and products we provide.
